About Us

DC SPC, a non-profit 501(c)3, is a collective made up of dedicated street photographers from the DC, MD, VA areas who are devoted to producing, sharing, and creatively capturing the human condition with the objective to foster growth for one's own work as well as those around them. The group was founded by Ryan Madison in May of 2018.

Our mission is to support collective and non-collective members alike in the community and promote the diverse contemporary street photographers who reside near to and in our nation's capital.

What We Do!

We foster growth for all photographers who are interested in raising the bar of their work through a meaningful conversation on and offline, all of which are free events. Everyone and anyone is invited to participate regardless of experience or camera type.

Since our first meet up October 13th, 2019 we've been actively searching for a new way to involve the community at large. We offer indoor and outdoor critique sessions (weather permitting), and monthly meet ups give individuals the chance to share experiences, tips & techniques and more.

We offer members and the public an opportunity to explore street photography through engagement with a local like-minded community that shares information, tools, and promotes each other's work. We also have annual member exhibitions, workshops, and events to highlight photographs from our members or talented photographers we discover who follow and tag us using the #DC_SPC hashtag.

Affiliates and Special Guests

The DC SPC often holds live critiques with special guests. We’ve worked with photographers like Eric Kim from the Eric Kim Street Photography Blog, Reuben Radding (NYC), Darrow Montgomery from the Washington City Paper, and Meryl Meisler who documented what would come to be known as the LGBTQ+ movement in New York City during the ‘70s and ‘80s.

The DC SPC is always on the lookout for new members especially as we continue to grow.

Membership is achieved through a nomination process from a current member, as well as a submitted portfolio review with all members. Currently we accept one new DMV photographer each year. In addition to your photographs, we'll also take into consideration much more, including but not limited to: you as an individual and your willingness to grow and contribute to the DC SPC community.

The best way to get noticed is to participate in our monthly meet-ups which include everything from photo walks, open/limited attendant critique sessions, and the "Sunday Feature" through our blog. The Sunday Feature is where we feature one photographer on our feed (each Sunday) who has tagged their photos using the #dc_spc hashtag.

Other than that, keep producing and pushing your street photography to the best of your abilities and  don’t forget to tag us using the #dc_spc hashtag so we can see your work
